Above the 180s there were also some very rare EG59-240 limited edition models, with solid flametops, fatter flamed maple necks, gold hardware, and ebony fingerboards.

He contacted his friend Mr.

Shigeru Narumo, a very popular Japanese guitarist.

They advised GRECO to develop a better guitar than the Les Paul model at a more affordable price and to scale the neck down to be more suitable for the smaller Japanese hand.

Mr. Shiino conducted the factory side and made the new custom EG.

The audience was surprised to see and hear a Japanese made guitar that was as good (if not better) than the original.

In a visit to the Fujigen factory, Narumo suggested opening the rear Humbucking pickup and to contour the back much like the Stratocaster.

The resulting guitar was the EG-420 and was much superior to the EG-360.

GRECO and Narumo collaborated on many models and culminated in the EG-800.

It had the open pickups and contoured back of the 420 with higher quality wood.

The new EG-800 had an ebony finger board, a solid 2p maple top and a narrow neck.

Some other GRECO Gibson-like models from the 1970s had a different headstock design, more like a Guild headstock design, that had a GRECO logo with equally sized letters.

GRECO started to make high standard replicas of Gibson and Fender models.

The Super Real EGF (flametop) and EG series higher end models featured nitrocellulose lacquer finishes and fret edge binding and some of the Super Real lower end models also featured fret edge binding.

Models EGF-850, EGF-1000, EGF-1200 have necks of the fatter 59 kind.

The rarest are the EGF-1200, the highest normal production model, and the built to order EGF-1800, which has a solid flametop, both of these models feature the fabled DRY Z pickups, made by Maxon, and are amongst the best regarded of all LP replicas.

There was also supposedly a highly quilted EGF-2500 but it has never been documented accurately.

GRECO re-issued the Super Real series in 1988 and 1989 for a few High End Semi-Acoustic models only.

The metal parts were re-designed, close to the original Les Paul.

Most of the Mint Collection Series models with an open O GRECO logo end in 1990.

In the early 1990s most of the GRECO guitars returned to a closed O GRECO logo (but there were some open O GRECO logo guitars made in the early 1990s as well).

Some of the EG58-120s also have fret binding and are very similar to the EGF-1200 Super Real, but with slightly slimmer profile necks.

Again the highest production model was the EG60-180 with a solid flametop, like the previous EGF-1800s.
